Hydroxycut Associated with Severe Liver Damage and Other Serious Health Problems
Hydroxycut products are dietary supplements marketed for weight loss as fat burners, energy-enhancers and low carb diet aids, and for water loss under the lovate and MuscleTech brand names.
On May 1, 2009, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) began "warning consumers to immediately stop using Hydroxycut products" hydroxycut-fda-warningdue to numerous reports from users of liver injuries and other serious health problems even when taken at doses Hydroxycut recommended on the bottle. Hydroxycut products have been associated with serious health problems and at least one death from liver failure. Early signs of liver damage often go unnoticed. They include jaundice (yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes), dark urine, light-colored stools, nausea, vomiting, excessive fatigue, weakness, stomach or abdominal pain, itching and loss of appetite. If left untreated, liver damage can lead to seizures, cardiovascular disorders, rhabdomyolysis, kidney failure and death.
