Congressman Stupak Calls on FDA to Assure Whistleblower Keeps His Job

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) asked whistleblower Dr. David Graham to leave his position and move elsewhere in the agency, according to Congressman Bart Stupak (D-MI).

Dr. Graham, a 20 year veteran at the FDA, recently testified before the Senate Finance Committee about FDA oversight on certain drugs, such as Vioxx®. In his testimony, Dr. Graham states "I would argue that the FDA, as currently configured, is incapable of protecting America against another Vioxx®."

The Committee also asked if there should be any other drugs that should be pulled from the market, which Dr. Graham named five: Accutane®, Meridia®, Crestor®, Bextra®, and Serevent®.

After Dr. Graham gave his testimony the Committee feels that the treatment of Dr. Graham will have a chilling effect on FDA employees to speak up and disagree when they believe the public’s health is at risk.
